New York University's INTERCEP is a "Challenge Center" focused on bringing key stakeholders together to collectively investigate targeted challenges, generate innovative, actionable solutions and collaborate in advancing their implementation for real world impact. Through direct engagement with key stakeholders, the Center forwards collaborative networks as force multipliers to address urgent challenges and advance targeted opportunities. The Center maintains a global outreach as the first center of excellence dedicated to organizational resilience and agility. The center's special focus on multi-party collaboration includes substantial experience in business-to-business networks and public-private partnerships.

Our Core Approach:

INTERCEP has a proven track record of leveraging the neutral ground of a leading university to:

  • convene key stakeholders from targeted domains in a constructive, action-oriented, and time-sensitive manner with adept conveners focused on clear timelines and deliverables;

  • distill clear and actionable insights;

  • serve as a channel to subject matter experts that may help both better define some of the key drivers in targeted challenges as well as inform strategies to address them

  • host ongoing collaborative alliances to advance and evolve developed strategies to assure real world impact.

Key elements of the Center's approach include:

  • Leverages the neutral independent ground of a leading international university to convene diverse parties in a trusted environment: Confidential sharing of experiences and perspectives coupled with a solutions-oriented approach are hallmarks of the Center's engagement. INTERCEP values its reputation for frank facilitated discussions among senior leaders in key organizations, both public and private. The Chatham House Rule is generally applied to assure that there is no attribution to individuals or organizations while allowing for all parties to generate benefit from shared insights and collaborative products.

    Targets and engages the key players / stakeholders: Getting the critical parties to the table is vital to understanding the challenge, identifying potential solutions and collaborating on implementing them. A diversity of insights promotes a more expansive understanding of both challenges and related opportunities as well as interdependencies across parties and sectors. This leads to more robust solution strategies.

  • Applies a problem-solving project-based approach to deliver concrete solutions: A core project management approach is applied to develop effective products and initiatives undertaken by the Center. Challenges, their drivers and potential solutions are defined through active facilitation. Further development and staged implementation of identified solutions is undertaken on a collaborative basis as appropriate.

  • Draws expertise from a diversity of disciplines: Both professional and academic knowledge is tapped as needed to advance the most robust and productive outcomes.

  • National and international in focus: The Center is committed to engaging across the US and the globe as appropriate. This is fully supported by NYU's global network university strategy.

  • Cooperates with related initiatives: INTERCEP seeks to integrate and collaborate with existing initiatives - not to duplicate or compete with them - acknowledging that there is real value and greater impact in collaboration.
